beauty, naturally.

if you got it (and you do), flaunt it.

lady love

Let’s talk for a minute about the SEVERE lack of woman-to-woman love going on these days. Now, I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but somewhere down the road, the acceptance and support from our fellow females started to crumble. Instead of passing on positivity, many women are catty, competitive, and degrading to one another. But why? I refuse to believe that it’s “simply in our nature,” ladies have GOT to get past sophomoric name calling and mean mugging! These behaviors start young, earlier than high school, and are reinforced almost daily. Our young ladies are learning to perpetuate a cycle of hatred and downright nastiness over petty affairs. Hey, I’m no saint. Through my teens I had a constant guard up, I repaid all of the hairy eyeballs and name calling I received, and was quick to judge another gal before I got to know her, but as I approached my early twenties, I began to question this behavior. Where did it come from? Why? How is it that men seem to have unfailing camaraderie through basically everything (“you slept with my girl?!” fight. now let’s go have a beer about it), and women can hold a grudge FOREVER (“you looked at my boyfriend the wrong way.” end of friendship)? It’s going to take a while for ladies to shake these behaviors, but I know that I personally am working hard to put a stop to it. If you see a girl in a dope outfit, tell her you like it! Pay a stranger a compliment, trust me, it will make their day. A genuine compliment from another woman is worth just as much as a compliment from a dude, and even further, it may encourage her to compliment another woman as well. If we can start to replace calling each other “sluts” and “bitches” with compliments, we could change a whole lot. So go, get out there, and spread some lady love. And if a misguided lady (or anyone for that matter) tries to break your spirits, kill them with kindness (seriously, they hate that).

ahem, an intoduction

Let me try to kick this thing off right; my name is Aja and I’m in the business of encouraging women to love who they are from head to foot. The road to self love and acceptance is a long, bumpy one, but for me, it’s been a completely educational journey. As a makeup artist, I am constantly working with women from all walks of life, and regardless of how different each woman is, I offer them no fail, one-size-fits-all advice: “Don’t cover or hide your natural beauty, enhance it.” Small, tall, slim, curvy, black, white, long hair, short hair, kinky hair, straight hair - it’s all beautiful to me. The most unique thing you can be is yourself, so get it girls.
